Overview

This certificate programme provides an advanced understanding of psychology in an educational setting, particularly its application to early childhood education. Learners will study the psychological factors that influence children’s learning and educational development, curriculum development, assessment and application of interventions in the educational environment.

Emphasis is placed on theoretically informed analysis and evidence-based interventions and practice in education. This will inform participants of how they can best contribute to policy, practice and research within the sector. They will analyse how future services might be shaped to respond to the needs of children in educational settings while also reflecting on their own practice and international best practice.

  • Demonstrate knowledge on the application of psychological theories and research to educational psychology and learning in the early years and reflect on the application of psychological theory as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Develop and evaluate interventions with children with special educational needs and emotional/behavioural issues.

This programme is a module from our MA in Leadership in Early Years Education and Care and offered as a standalone certificate for students who are interested in gaining a recognised qualification in this discipline.
