This course is suitable for individuals either working in the pharmaceutical industry or with an interest in developing their knowledge base in the area of biopharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical microbiology. It is especially beneficial to workers in these industries from other academic backgrounds who wish to up-skill in the relevant areas of microbiology and cell biology. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the principles of industrial microbiology, bioprocessing and biochemistry as applied in an industrial context and also to provide microbiology and cell biology knowledge base. Graduates of this course will be able to function within a cleanroom environment and gave firm understanding of the fundamentals of aseptic processing. This involves elements of cell biology, microbiology, downstream processing, biochemistry, immunology and recombinant DNA technology.
