This course will provide students with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and principles involved in the sale and supply of animal remedies, in a pharmacy, veterinary shop and a licensed merchant premises. Graduates will be equipped to apply their knowledge safely and with regard to best practice and current legislation in a retail environment.

Upon completion of this course graduates will be able to;

  1. Describe and recommend veterinary medicines to deal with basic animal health queries;
  2. Understand and apply the requirements of the Animal Remedies Legislation to the pharmacy environment;
  3. Demonstrate competence in either a community pharmacy or vet shop;
  4. Advise appropriately, and where necessary to direct owner to seek veterinary assistance;
  5. Develop and maintain an animal health care service in either community pharmacy or any where animal remedies are being supplied;
  6. Organise a structured approach for dealing with an inspection from the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland and Health and Safety Authority.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis in accordance with the Institute policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). IT Carlow reserve the right to require applicants to attend for interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
