This course will introduce students to the discipline of organisational psychology. Students will learn to discuss and critique both traditional and contemporary psychological theories and perspectives combined with the key topics of organisational psychology. Students will develop an understanding of how psychological principles are applied in the workplace which in turn will develop self-confidence and empowerment skills. The value of organisational behaviour theories and how they can contribute to the management of teams and projects will be explored by students.

On completion of this course graduates should be able to;

  • Learn how to interpret people-organisation relationships in terms of the whole person, the group, and the organisation;
  • Explain the processes by which needs, expectations, and attitudes influence the effort that employees invest in their work;
  • Describe how personality and culture can affect the interaction between the individual and the organization;
  • Identify and explain key personality and motivational, and group theories;
  • Analyse the nature and function of groups and describe how group conformity and power can occur within the workplace.


Entry Requirements

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis in accordance with the University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). SETU Carlow reserves the right to require applicants to attend for interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
