The aim of this programme is to highlight the importance of health, well-being and nutrition in the social care setting. Students will gain knowledge of holistic health and wellbeing, health Protection/ill health prevention, care of the older person, specific care needs in social care and the importance of nutrition for holistic health & wellbeing.

On completion of this course graduates should be able to;

  • Illustrate a knowledge of the factors which impact on holistic health and wellbeing throughout the life course;
  • Outline how health is protected in social care settings;
  • Examine aging and care of the older person;
  • Explore the care of children and adults with disabilities, lifelong and life limiting conditions;
  • Understand the relationship between nutrition and population health and wellbeing in social care.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis in accordance with the University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). SETU Carlow reserves the right to require applicants to attend for interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
