This course provides participants with knowledge and skills in leadership and management by developing leadership capability and competency in motivation, communication, culture and team developmental strategies. Students will discuss leadership and management through models and current thinking with the objective to enhance their personal leadership and management potential. Students will analyse the key challenges in the context of transformational management in organisations. There is a focus on change and its impact on organisation development, and examines how innovation, creativity and decision-making are fundamental to organisations in times of uncertainty or growth. The course will also explore the impact of cross-cultural management essential for effective management in the global environment.

Effective Leadership
• Models of team Leadership - theory and Practice; • Leadership and management styles and skill sets; • Leading teams – understanding team dynamics; • Organisation and group culture; • Power and political behaviour in groups and functions. • Decision making, problem solving and authority • Dimensions of Cross Cultural Management • Creative & Innovation Cultures and Mindsets • Transformation Management concepts, models and frameworks

Change Management

  • Change Management - Methodology & Psychology;
  • Forces for change;
  • External (economic recession, technology, multi-culture environment) and Internal (Organisational and Individual) types of change, magnitude, scope and models of change;
  • Transformational Change;
  • Resistance to change and overcoming resistance;
  • Managing successful change

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis in accordance with the University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). SETU Carlow reserves the right to require applicants to attend for interview to determine their suitability for the programme.
