Critical Incident Stress Management

Programme Aim

The aim of this programme is to provide learners with an awareness of workplace critical incident stress and to develop key competencies, skills and knowledge in the field of managing and responding appropriately to critical/traumatic incidents across a wide and diverse range of occupational contexts. It addresses the important issue of protecting the psychological health and safety of workers in occupational groups likely to be exposed to critical incidents during the course of their work.

The programme will be assessed through a combination of take home assignments and in-class practical walk-through exercises.


The programme is accredited by the Institute of Technology Carlow. Additional certification will be provided by ICISF on completion of the peer and group intervention exercises.

Entry level Requirements

Applicants must hold a level 7 qualification or may be accepted onto the programme through RPL with significant knowledge of CISM in the workplace.
