Master of Business (MB)
 In a job market increasingly featuring primary honours degree holders, this Masters Programme, with its work experience element, significantly increases graduates’ chances of recruitment by highly attractive employers.
 
The Master of Business programme is aimed at producing creative, flexible and dynamic individuals, who can take up or enhance roles as business practitioners, in Ireland or overseas. A Master of Business is an internationally recognised qualification and opens the door to many careers.

Master of Science Supply Chain Management
In light of current skills shortages in industry in the area of Supply Chain Management, this Masters programme will provide participants seeking jobs in this sector with a competitive edge. According to a report from the Forfás Expert Group on Future Skills Needs, Ireland is emerging as a leading location for biopharmaceuticals with a mix of start-ups, high growth SMEs and large multinationals located here.
 
Industry leaders including Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Sanofi, MSD (biologics based in Carlow) and Alkermes plc. have significant investment in Ireland which has facilitated rapid growth and development of the industry.

The Diploma in Management Effectiveness & Practice aims to provide knowledge and skill development in delivering supervisory leadership and management in a modern commercial environment. Tailored specifically for those in or seeking supervisory/team lead roles, the programme provides a complementary set of Courses which allow the student to explore topics such as personal effectiveness, team leadership and change management.  

Diploma in Health & Safety at Work

The programme is designed to provide a recognised qualification for those with a professional interest in, or involved in the application of, occupational health and safety at work. It offers participants an opportunity to reflect on their professional practice and gain a theoretical and critical perspective of issues associated with environmental, health and safety. The University has engaged with multiple stakeholders including the Regional Skills Manager and through this consultation has determined both a demand and an available pool. The South East regional skills forum manager completed a study of the future skills needs of this sector in the South East between October and December 2018. This report was published in 2019. Through industry collaboration and consultation across multiple programmes, there is a need for Industry to upskill in the area of Health, Safety and Environmental Management. There is 228,000 persons in employment in the South East. There is a legal obligation on all employers to ‘provide instruction and training to employees on health and safety’. This is the key driver of demand for skills training in health and safety. 

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Accounting

Graduate opportunities exist as a trainee accountant in practice or industry. Many graduates also find employment in the financial services sectors such as banking, insurance, financial analysis and fund management. A period of further study will allow the graduate to qualify as a professional accountant.  

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Early Childhood Education and Care
Graduates will have the knowledge, competencies and skills to work directly with, or on behalf of, babies and young children in a range of early childhood settings, particularly in the ECCE ‘free’ pre-school year funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
 
Professional employment opportunities can include roles as room leaders, managers and leaders in early childhood settings such as: pre-schools; crèches; special needs services; family support centres and community services.
 
Opportunities may include leadership roles in county childhood care committees, specialists with Better Start National Early Years Quality Development or inspectors with the Department of Education and Skills.

  

Honours Bachelor Law (LL.B)

A law degree provides excellent preparation for work in a legal capacity in both the public and private sectors, and most graduates undertake professional training to qualify as a solicitor or barrister. Certificate in Workforce Management

Targeting those likely to be in roles as managers or within the HR practice field, this programme opens the pathway for progression through developing the knowledge, skills and abilities required of managers, which is gained from the three practical Courses. Developing critical skills in interpretation, analysis and dissemination of data and people analytics will enable participants to gain a new insight into the leadership role they hold. Given the practical and applied nature of assessment, candidates can contribute to improvements in their current place of work with relevant projects. Promotion of organisation wide assessment will lead to improved knowledge transfer and the assimilation of best practice. of interpretation and analysis of data and in particular of people analytics. Mainstreaming the challenge of WFP across organisations is growing, and the challenges of managing a workforce requires dynamism and flexibility. The proactive approach to the programme places a strong emphasis and competencies on managing a larger workforce, thus likely increasing career opportunities. The leadership Course prepares them for progression and how to become more effective. As the University is accredited and a recognised provider of CIPD programmes, it is hoped that this programme can form part of participant’s recognition for CPD in the field of workforce management and HRM.    

Bachelor of Science Management (Craft)

The programme will produce graduates who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies in their professional area to participate on a regional, national and international basis. 

Bachelor of Science Energy Management (Buildings)
This programme aims to provide the learner with the opportunity to develop their independent leadership and project management skills through the study, analysis, development and resolution of a relevant project. It offers the learner real exposure to work practices and presents an opportunity to develop independence and confidence through reflective learning. The aim of this Course is to develop student's research, critical writing and thinking skills. The essence of the Course is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theories, ideas, skills and techniques from their programme to a subject area of personal, academic and/or career interest to them within the relevant discipline field. A reflective analysis approach is adopted in the selection of a suitable project and the assessment is based on a final report and presentation.
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Applied Humanities

The degree will provide students with a broad education the programme provides students with an introduction to areas such as psychology, economics and social studies.

The course aims to be a broad based degree in humanities, and after the first year, students choose between the Economic and Social Studies Stream, and the Psychology and Social Studies Stream. Mandatory themes include communications, research skills, IT skills, digital media; and civic, social and human rights. The course provides students with the knowledge, competencies and skills required in the modern workplace, which is increasingly concerned with effective knowledge management, and the effective communication and presentation of ideas and arguments. The course is applied in nature. In addition to the rigorous theoretical underpinning of a Humanities degree, this Degree focuses on the application of Humanities in the wider community.

Throughout the programme, students are exposed to real-life assessments. The applied nature of the programme is thus demonstrated through the application of Humanities in relation to the wider community, and with respect to issues such as Ethics, Equality, Civic Engagement and Enterprise. The focus is on an undergraduate programme which fosters and supports community and civic engagement, and supports the concepts of social entrepreneurship, social justice and equality. In this regard, there is a strong focus on national and global issues. The key concepts of ethics and sustainability are embedded within the programme. In the context of this programme, graduates will learn the importance of fostering healthy economic, social and environmental systems. They will learn the importance of creating economic value and contributing to strong communities

To introduce students to the concept of Entrepreneurship and to examine some of the key strategic issues in relation to new venture creation in Ireland. Students will build on their theoretical knowledge and apply it in a practical format through a structured business plan.

To provide a learning opportunity for compliance and/or other relevant professionals to develop the necessary intellectual capital to ensure that their organisations meet their current and future regulatory responsibilities in relation to data protection.

Provide graduates with specialised knowledge in the area of construction project management. • Focus the graduate on the key issues pertaining to the role of the project manager. • Enable the graduate to apply knowledge obtained to construction projects.  

Certificate in BIM Management

To equip practitioners with the requisite knowledge and tools to ensure that information is organized and controlled during the construction procurement process and throughout the lifecycle of the building, in a manner that is as efficient and supportive as possible, based on the exploitation and use of BIM models and tools. 

Certificate in Family Support (Theory and Practice)

Family Support is a style of work and a wide range of activities that strengthen positive informal social networks through community based programmes and services. The main focus of these services is on early intervention aiming to promote and protect the health, well-being and rights of all children, young people and their families. At the same time particular attention is given to those who are vulnerable or at risk (Tusla, 2017). The aim of this programme is to further the education and skills of professionals with a common interest in family support.

Certificate in Addiction Studies

Learners will be introduced to the nature and context of addiction, data on drug use and alcohol and drug policy and to provide them with an overview of community responses to drug issues.

Certificate in Adult Community Education

The module aims to provide participants from a range of professional /academic backgrounds with the opportunity to explore adult and community education theory, policy and practice. It will examine the historical, theoretical, and philosophical underpinnings of adult and community education and will also provide the practitioner with the knowledge and skills to develop, deliver and evaluate an adult/community education programme. It seeks to enable students to engage critically and reflexively with their role as (future) adult and community educators  

Certificate in Contemporary Issues in Childhood & Youth Studies

This interdisciplinary module explores current contrasting and emerging issues in childhood and youth theory, policy and practice. The roles, responsibilities and experiences that children and young people may explore outside of the family are examined. The lives of children and young people who experience adversity and resilience are studied. The future of childhood as a consequence of globalisation is critiqued. Finally, the active agency of children and young people as participants in their own lives and futures is discussed. The theme of empowering and enabling children and young people to become active citizens runs through the module.

Certificate in Leadership, Strategy & Governance

This module will allow the learner build a comprehensive understanding of the methods of strategic planning and analysis and to produce suitable strategic options for their organisations. The module will develop a learner’s understanding of leading and implementing strategic plans and undergoing appropriate change in an organisation whether in the private, public or not for profit sectors. The module will also introduce the learner into the key principles of effective governance. 

Certificate in Youth Justice

This Course will begin with examination of the definitions and construct which underpin the area of youth justice. Through consideration of practical examples, learners will develop an understanding of the issues surrounding youth criminal activity, anti- social behaviour and persistent offending.

Following this, critical consideration is given to the causes and contributory factors of youth crime, youth offending and anti-social behaviour. Discussion of these complex factors will consider family, community and wider society.

The second part of the Course examines the philosophical underpinnings of the youth justice system in Ireland. Critical consideration will be had of criminological perspectives of youth offending and how these act as a rationale for control measures taken by the Irish Criminal Justice system. Evidence of these approaches in the Irish youth Justice system will be examined in light of policies and legislation relevant to the area. Evaluation of these approaches will be through an international lens, considering the approaches taken in other jurisdictions.

Following on from section 2, the 3rd part of the Course will consider the practical application of legislation and policy in the youth justice system. The rationale and critique of diversion is explored particularly in relation to mechanisms to divert young people from the criminal justice system and from detention. The role and impact of youth detention is examined drawing on national and international experiences, before concluding the Course with a focus on reintegration and examination of the notion of young people being ‘in’ but not always ‘of’ the community.

This final section incorporates issues and responses for young people that are cautioned, sentenced or on remand

This certificate equips students with a comprehensive understanding in three areas of digital media - Digital media design, Information Design and Digital Media Applications. Delivered through a series of connected lectures, students are introduced to the concept and practices of digital media design, and information design at a high level level. The Course will combine a theoretical and practice approach combining good design practice with advanced applications skills.

This Course will enable the learner evaluate the relevance of digital strategy to organisational success. The content, context and nature of digital strategies and their processes of development are addressed.

Learners will gain knowledge in the field of programming for data analytics. It will include programming fundamentals specific to data analytics such as data structures, algorithms and libraries along with data cleaning and manipulation techniques.

The aim of this programme is to provide an opportunity for students to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to become skilled practitioners in the area of social media marketing, for commercial and service organisations. 

Certificate in Organisational Psychology

This course is an introduction to the subject of organisational psychology: the applied branch of psychology that is concerned with understanding workplace behaviour and enhancing the well-being of people in organisations. The programme features theoretical and practical examples on topics like, training and development, leadership and power, group dynamics, workplace stress and the relationship between how we feel and how we act in the workplace.

Certificate in Project Management & Communications

This programme aims to ensure students understand the role of the Project Manager and the project management function within an organisation together with the outward impact project management has on all aspects of the business. The student will learn to use MS Project software as a project planning tool. 

Certificate in Purchasing Strategy, Quality Management and Lean Six Sigma
The primary aim of this course is to produce competent workers in the field of quality management, purchasing officer/executive and Lean Six Sigma improvement specialist, with the appropriate multi-disciplinary skills to meet local, regional, and national needs at an introductory level. The skills acquired by the end of this course are the ability to identify potential problems and present acceptable solutions, emphasis on Quality within the manufacturing processes, understanding of the purchasing function within the supply chain, comprehension of the role of suppliers, intake and production within a production environment and an understanding of the contemporary issues facing the industry.
 
The course will enable participating companies gain competitive advantage through the application of Lean Six Sigma principles which drive improvement and quality with measurable results, often resulting in significant cost savings for an organisation. A company-based placement and project will form a key element of the programme, ensuring the integration of the various concepts in the participants’ workplace. Students may be eligible to apply for additional professional accreditation with Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ).

This programme develops participants’ strategic management capabilities through the exploration of strategic analysis, planning, development and implementation within the context of functional and organisational strategy.

The aim of this programme is to support adults in later life (50+) and those working with them to work towards change, both on a personal and societal level.
