Travel and Transport

At SETU, we are firmly committed to promoting sustainable and active commuting options for our students, staff and visitors. To assist us in achieving this goal, we have established strong partnerships with the NRA, Transport for Ireland, Smarter Travel Programme. We participate in the numerous initiatives and annual events, including:

  • Marchathon Step Challenge
  • Walktober Step Challenge
  • Cycle into Summer
  • Bike Week

Professor Veronica Campbell, has signed a new Smarter Travel Charter with Transport for Ireland (TFI). TFI Smarter Travel is a behaviour change programme working with third level institutions to implement voluntary campus travel plans that promote and encourage sustainable and active commuting. Through the programme, SETU is working with students and employees to facilitate more sustainable travel choices resulting in better access, enhanced student and employee wellbeing, reduced costs, reduced carbon emissions, and more effective parking management.

Speaking on the university’s implementation of the initiative, Jessica O’Hara, Sustainability Manager at SETU in Carlow said, “SETU promotes smarter travel as part of the curriculum and through student projects. Our students were finalists in the recent Annual Smarter Travel Student Awards, and lecturers from Carlow and Waterford campuses won lecturer recognition awards. Smarter, more sustainable travel to our university is part of the student experience we’re committed to enhancing.”

Our dedication to fostering greener community choices is unwavering as we strive to create a more sustainable and environmentally conscious campus environment.
