Mr Murray is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin where he completed his undergraduate studies in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering and his Masters in the Civil Engineering research unit at TCD, under the supervision of Professor Barry Lehane. He is a Chartered Engineer (equivalent to Level 10 qualification) with Engineers Ireland and has over 20 years industrial experience working on civil and structural projects both nationally and internationally. He has been based at SETU Carlow since 2005, as a lecturer in Department of Built Environment and Extended Campus (formerly Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering). He is a graduate of Dublin Institute of Technology where he completed postgraduate studies in Teaching and Learning.

Academic and Research Experience
Has lectured at undergraduate in Information Technology, Construction & Building Technology, Drawing, Material Science, Concrete Technology, Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Structures, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Highway Engineering and Environmental Science and has supervised final year research dissertations. Has been involved in programme development at level 6 – 9 in the Department of Built Environment and Extended Campus and is currently the programme director for the honours degree in Civil Engineering at SETU Carlow. Research interests include material and concrete testing, hydraulics and hydrology.
Has acted as external examiner for levels 6 – 8 and been involved in Engineers Ireland accreditation panels reviewing levels 6 – 9 Civil Engineering programmes. Has acted as an assessor for Professional Titles. Is based at the EngCORE research unit at the Institute of Technology in Carlow.

Research Supervision
Has supervised final year research dissertations at both Level 7 and 8. Research interests include material and concrete testing, hydraulics and hydrology.
Engagement and Collaboration
Is a Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland since 2002. He has been actively involved as a committee member of the South-East Branch of Engineers Ireland since 2007. Has acted as PRO, Liaison officer, Council Representative, Vice-chairman, Chairman and is currently acting as Treasurer for the South-East Branch of Engineers Ireland.
