Academic and Research Experience

In conducting research for her PhD, Dr. Clare Power studied the prevalence of flukicides in milk and dairy products in licenced animal trials. The published results informed European legislation, resulting in the re-introduction of previously banned flukicides back to permissible use in Ireland.

The methodologies of analysis developed and the data obtained resulting from that study, completed in just over 3 years, continues to be used to inform European Legislation for anthelmintics resulting in the work being widely published and cited.

Outside the primary research topic for her PhD, Dr. Power has published in the area of parasite prevalence on Irish Dairy Farms, in addition to herd management resulting from BoHV-1 seropositive and BVD virus positive bulls on dairy farms.

Dr. Power maintains a keen interest in research – submitting research abstracts to the Presidents Research Fellowship Programme at the Institute of Technology Carlow in the remit of Quality Assurance, Regulation and Accreditation within Higher Education.

Recent approved topics include the following:

  • Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Ireland – Does it work (2017)
  • In Higher Education - Does regulation of programmes help with the quality of the programme (2018)
  • Regulation in action how effective are the Regulators (2018)

Dr. Power has also spent the last four years lecturing within the Institute of Technology Carlow on Quality Assurance, Regulation and Accreditation, where one of the programmes she lectures on has been chosen as an Institute pilot for blended learning delivery.

Dr. Power has conducted many conference presentations and chaired a session at the EdTech 2018 Conference. Most recently, she was invited to speak on the topic of Quality Assurance – from Food to Flying at the 2018 National Education & Skills Summit.
