20/10/2021

Institute of Technology Carlow is an active participant in the second National Academic Week, which takes place until Friday (22 October).

Events are taking place at local, national and international level to highlight academic integrity and support students in developing their own academic integrity.

IT Carlow staff Dr Gina Noonan, Damien Raftery, Dr Michael Seery, Breda Connell, Dr Eva Burke, and ITCSU President Thomas Drury have created and will deliver a number of informative events at IT Carlow to support National Academic Integrity Week.

Wednesday is International Day of Action Against Contract Cheating and, to mark the occasion, the institute’s Teaching the Learning Centre (TLC) is hosting academic writing sessions for students. The sessions will sessions will focus on note-taking, critical thinking, essay writing, academic integrity, and procrastination.

In a special session for staff, Dr Micheal Seery, Breda O’Connell and Dr Eva Burke will share some insights on the creation of new PACE resources, including the process of carrying out a literature review and how academic writing support sessions operate.

“Academic integrity is everyone’s business. As we mark National Academic Integrity Week, it is important for students to know that resources are here to support them in developing academic integrity. It is also important that staff are aware of the resources available and several of the events taking place this week are there to inform them on the systems and supports they can avail of to promote academic integrity”, said Dr Yvonne Kavanagh.

National Academic Week is run in conjunction with the National Academic Integrity Network (NAIN), the International Centre for Academic Integrity (ICAI), the European Network for Academic Integrity (ENAI) and QQI.
