ITC Addresses the Needs of the Elderly

07/11/2011

IT Carlow’s Computer & Networking Department hosted the 3rd Meeting of the EU Ambient Assisted Living Join-In Consortium on recently.  The EU AAL Join-In project addresses the increasing social isolation of the elderly in Europe while also addressing cognitive and physical decline through serious games and exergames.

IT Carlow staff members Greg Doyle, Ross Palmer and Daire O'Broin are working on this project along with two gameCORE postgraduate students (and Games course graduates) Dale Cantwell and Shane Marks.  Consortium members from Germany, Norway, Finland, Hungary and of course Ireland (ITC, Irish SME Valentia Technologies and an Active Retirement Ireland product user group) were in attendance and all expressed very positive opinions of Carlow and the Institute in particular.
