StudentSurvey.ie 2021 Goes Live

22/02/2021

This year’s StudentSurvey.ie has gone live and will be available for the next three weeks, allowing IT Carlow students and their peers in 24 other higher education institutions around Ireland create a large and valuable data set of their experiences of higher education.

StudentSurvey.ie began in 2013 and the annual survey is open to taught students (first year and final year undergraduates, and taught postgraduates). The PGR StudentSurvey.ie is also run in parallel with StudentSurvey.ie on a biennial basis and captures the feedback of postgraduate research students. The PGR survey will also take place this year. The surveys are specific to each institution and the results inform developments within institutions around the country while also providing a national set of data.

This year’s surveys feature questions on the impact of the pandemic and offer a huge opportunity for students to have their say on how the national restrictions have affected their studies and their attitudes to remote learning. These results will form a valuable set of data to inform higher education institutions on where improvements can be made as we adapt to living with Covid-19.

Owing to the pandemic, this year’s survey is completely online for the first time in its history. To encourage engagement, IT Carlow has increased its number of survey ambassadors and introduced more prizes than any other year to date. Every Wednesday at 12.30pm, the Students Union reps will spin the wheel for a set of prizes that include Air Pods, Fitbits and vouchers. Students who complete the surveys are eligible to win.

The survey feedback from Institute of Technology Carlow students over the last eight years has informed several initiatives. These include: quieter spaces in the library; new student areas; a free Blackboard app; new labs, lecture rooms and classrooms; new academic writing and support centres; more work placement and workplace training; better sports facilities; an increase in masters’ level courses and a €1.2million investment in technology and equipment.

“We are encouraging first year, final year and postgraduate students to complete the survey over the course of the next three weeks.  This year, given the circumstances that apply, we really urge students to participate and complete the survey so they can have their say and we can use the results to develop and improve the student experience”, said David Denieffe, Registrar and Vice-President for Student Affairs, IT Carlow.
