Seachtain na Gaeilge begins at IT Carlow

Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020 (1st to 17th March) ag tosnú agus ta rionnt imeachtaí beartaithe don tseachtain seo at Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Ceatharlach.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020 (1st to 17th March) has begun and there are several activities taking place at IT Carlow for this special week that promotes the Irish language and culture.

On Wednesday, a conversation circle and tea morning will take place in the Upper Canteen from 10.30am to 11.30am. The event is an opportunity to converse in Irish with colleagues and students of the Institute and all levels of interest and ability are welcome. Later that day, there will be a lunchtime Irish dancing display by members of the Institute’s Irish Dancing Society. This takes place at 1.30pm in the Upper Canteen.

Tráthnóna Scrabble sa Gaeilge – a Scrabble Afternoon through Irish – takes place on Thursday from 3-4pm in the Upper Canteen, providing a fun opportunity to practice Irish. Come test and practice your vocabulary by playing board games through Irish. Again, all levels of interest and ability are welcome.

Members of the Institute’s Irish Dancing Society will offer a free dancing lesson with qualified instructors on Monday 9th March at 6pm in the Barrow Centre. No previous dancing knowledge is required. This is your change to discover your inner Riverdance!

The following day (Tue. 10th March) a basic introductory class in the Irish language will take place in Room A204 from 11.15am to 12.15pm. The class will include an introduction to all things Irish, including history, culture and heritage. The class is aimed at complete beginners and will be delivered in English. This event was most popular and oversubscribed last year so registration in advance is advised. Contact organiser ronan.lynch@itcarlow.ie

The Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020 activities will end with a St. Patrick’s Day Mass as Gaeilge in the multi-faith room on 11th March from 1.05pm to 1.30pm.
