Dragons Den panellist visits IT Carlow
07/04/2011
RTE’s Dragons Den panellist Sean Gallagher, visited IT Carlow on Tuesday to give a motivational talk to the students of the college. Students were highly encouraged to attend the talk on ‘How young people need to take ownership of their futures by focussing on the solutions not the problems’ which took place at 3pm in a full lecture theatre at the Institute.
Sean Gallagher is a speaker and entrepreneur who is best known as an investor on RTE’s Dragon’s Den. He is founder and former CEO of Ireland's largest home technology company, Smarthomes and a campaigner and advocate for people with disabilities. As an entrepreneur Sean understands the challenges of setting up and growing a successful business in Ireland and was a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006.
Mr. Gallagher was greeted with a round of applause by over 350 attendees of staff and students whilst taking his first steps into the venue. The visitor gave a most inspiring talk following his introduction by Students Union President, Kate Acheson. From youth to adulthood, the speaker faced challenges and adversity that drew reinvention from inside and with an ever positive outlook he talked on adversity as an ‘introduction to our true selves’.
A life mantra that Mr. Gallagher consciously repeated, ‘if you can dream it you can become it’ given to him by a former teacher, was passed onto the audience as a gesture of eliminating the negative thoughts that limits success, abundance and happiness. He addressed the students as the ‘leaders of the next generation’, while waking them to a reality that they are in control of their own lives. Not a passenger in a car of their own life but the driver. Undoubtedly Mr. Gallagher received an extended standing ovation from all attendees.
A questions and answers session brought the visit to a close with staff and students seeking advice and guidance from the respected entrepreneur. Kindly, Mr. Gallagher asked the audience to keep him up to date through his website, www.seangallagher.com on creative ideas, plans and current enterprises they may have.
