93 Graduates Conferred at IT Carlow Wicklow Campus

93 graduates from IT Carlow Wicklow County Campus were last Friday conferred at morning and afternoon ceremonies at Clermont House, Rathnew.

Graduates were conferred with honours and ordinary level degrees in Law; Early Childhood Education and Care; Applied Social Studies (Professional Child Care); Business in Management and Energy Management. Higher Diplomas and Higher Certificates were also awarded in Applied Social Studies; Business and Early Childhood Education & Care.

During the conferring ceremony, two awards were presented for outstanding academic achievement. Brian Jones, from Wicklow, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Energy Management, received the IT Carlow Student of the Year Award at Level 7. Jessica Wallnutt, from Dublin, who received a Higher Diploma in Arts in Early Childhood Education and Care, was presented with the Wicklow County Council Student of the Year Award at Level 8.

The conferring ceremony was attended by the President of IT Carlow, Dr. Patricia Mulcahy who was joined by Bryan Doyle, CEO, Wicklow County Council and Cathaoirleach John Ryan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mulcahy commented on the huge contribution that the Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow continues to make to the region and which is currently providing more than 400 students with an opportunity to receive a quality third-level education close to home.


“The Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow is to be congratulated on the important role it plays in providing access to quality higher education opportunities for many people who would otherwise be denied such an  opportunity”, commented Dr. Mulcahy.

“The importance of Wicklow County Campus to the county and to the region is being emphasised in the Institute’s submission to the Mid East Action Plan for Jobs. Our submission proposes new enterprise engagement programmes in addition to a proposal for a campus incubation centre that would work closely with the Wicklow Local Enterprise Office.  We would hope that these plans will receive support from the relevant government departments”, added Dr. Mulcahy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bryan Doyle, CEO of Wicklow County Council said, “I congratulate each and every graduate here today on their success. Today’s conferring also demonstrates the successful collaboration between Wicklow County Council and IT Carlow in the provision of further education, lifelong learning and enterprise development for county Wicklow”.

Head of Lifelong Learning at IT Carlow, Joseph Collins said “Today is a great day for graduates and their families. It is also further evidence of the success story that is Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow which continues to go from strength to strength”.

Opened in 2006, Wicklow County Campus is a unique venture developed by Wicklow County Council and the Institute of Technology Carlow to provide part-time, evening and adult higher education programmes in Wicklow. All courses, from certificate level through to master degrees, are offered on a part-time basis at the campus in Rathnew

Today’s conferring is one of eleven such ceremonies this month where 2,200 graduates will have been conferred across the Institute of Technology Carlow campuses and locations in Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin. IT Carlow currently ranks as the 4th largest of Ireland’s 14 Institutes with almost 7,000 enrolments.
