Historic Day for Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow as Largest Number of Graduates to Date are Conferred

The Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow reached a milestone last Friday with the conferring of its largest ever number of graduates. 111 students were bestowed with certificates, higher certificates, degrees, honours degrees and higher diplomas across a number of disciplines including: Business; Early Childhood Education & Care; Law; Social Studies; Digital Media and Energy Management.

Presenting the graduating students with their parchments, Dr. Patricia Mulcahy, President IT Carlow commented on the huge contribution that the Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow continues to make to the region, providing students from  Wicklow and the surrounding region with an opportunity to receive a quality third level education close to home.

“The Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow is to be congratulated on the important role it plays in providing access to quality higher education opportunities for many people who would otherwise be denied such an  opportunity”, commented Dr. Mulcahy.

Head of Lifelong Learning at IT Carlow, Joseph Collins said “Never has there been a more important time to celebrate the achievement of graduates of the Wicklow County Campus, IT Carlow. With the economic and social challenges currently facing the country, higher education has a central role to play in our national recovery”.

During the conferring ceremony IT Carlow acknowledged graduates from various programmes with prestigious awards for outstanding academic achievement. Among the award winners on the day were Barry Jones, who received the Wicklow County Council Student of the Year Award. John Bermingham and Tony Salsi also received awards for excellence in Business and Energy Management, respectively.

Opened in 2006, Wicklow County Campus is a unique venture developed by Wicklow County Council and the Institute of Technology Carlow to provide part-time, evening and adult higher education programmes in Wicklow. All courses, from certificate level through to honours degrees and higher diplomas – are offered on a part-time basis at the campus in Rathnew where currently 320 students are enrolled.
