Academic & Sports Scholarships Awarded to Over 100 Students

IT Carlow Present Over 100 Academic and Sports Scholarships -  A bright sunny day set the tone for this year’s IT Carlow presentation of Academic and Sports Scholarships, which took place on Tuesday, March 4th.  Proud parents, teachers, lecturers and students gathered on campus to witness 37 Academic Scholarships and 73 Sport Scholarships being presented to IT Carlow students.  Academic Scholarships were awarded to students who achieved the highest Leaving Certificate score in their chosen course at IT Carlow.  Sports Scholarships were awarded to students across a wide range of courses. The Sports Scholarship Programme supports athletes who have the talent and dedication to combine academic studies with excellence in sport.

Carmel Lynch, Director of Sport at IT Carlow said, “The Sports Scholarship gives the elite sports person the opportunity to compete at the highest level while studying at the Institute.  We are proud to be able to support such great sporting talent and we encourage all students to balance their time wisely to ensure that academic or sporting interests are not compromised. We are very proud of the success of our sports people at IT Carlow.”

It was a special afternoon of achievement with scholarship winners from counties all over Ireland, including Carlow, Kildare, Wicklow, Wexford, Kilkenny, Laois, Cork, Monaghan, Galway, Longford, Waterford, Tipperary, Offaly, Meath, Westmeath, Dublin, Armagh and Mayo. Among the Carlow scholars was national sprint champion Marcus Lawler who has represented Ireland internationally on several occasions. Marcus is a student of Business and Law at IT Carlow.

Two students were awarded both Academic and Sports Scholarships. Dan Finnerty from Tipperary is studying for a BA (Honours) in Sports Rehabilitation & Athletic Therapy and Andrew Carey from Waterford is studying for a BEng (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering. Both are also talented rugby players.

Dr. Patricia Mulcahy, President of IT Carlow, presented each recipient with their award, congratulated them on their achievements and spoke about the continued development of the Institute “IT Carlow is extremely proud of its high quality academic and sporting reputation. The awarding of such a high number of scholarships is an impressive reflection of the dedication of staff and students alike”.
