SETU hosts Engineering Your Future Event 2023

South East Technological University’s (SETU) Faculty of Engineering hosted the Engineering Your Future event. This was a week-long event that provided a hands-on programme of events for transition year students in Carlow who wanted to learn more about science and maths. The event is designed to introduce them to the exciting and diverse world of engineering and to awaken their interest in pursuing engineering at third level.

The event is supported by Engineers Ireland’ STEPS programme, one that that gives students a hands-on, fun, and practical insight into engineering at third level and as a career.

Engineering Your Future runs in colleges and universities around Ireland and is a great opportunity for secondary school students to learn about various engineering disciplines. Students can gain a practical insight into the experience of studying engineering at third level and the myriad potential for career progression in the field. At SETU’s event, students had the chance to engage with lecturers and graduate students who could share first-hand experience of SETUs engineering courses.

Additionally, through event workshops, students learned about the technologies that are used in the exciting world of engineering. They also got to engage with engineers at various stages of their careers and gain in depth understanding of the work of an engineer on a daily basis.

Speaking about the success of the event, Dr Anthony Nolan of the Faculty of Engineering at SETU in Carlow commented, “This year represents the tenth anniversary of our involvement with the Engineering Your Future programme. Students had positive feedback on the hands-on practical approach of the week’s activities. SETU is looking forward to hosting this programme again next year in early summer”.

SETU offers a broad range of courses in this area: from civil, mechanical, and electronic engineering, to biomedical, aerospace, and agricultural systems engineering.
