The 3-year Architectural Technology programme at IT Carlow has been awarded accreditation by the Royal Institute of Architects Ireland (RIAI). The RIAI Visiting Board conducted its Phase 2 visit to the Department of the Built Environment at IT Carlow in April 2013 and concluded that the BSc. in Architectural Technology continues to meet the stringent RIAI accreditation criteria.

 

“Overall the Visiting Board felt that the balance of the course was very good with the parallel projects within each year being good and well-coordinated” the report was quoted as saying.

 

Edwin Landzaad, Head of the Department of the Built Environment, congratulated the Architectural Technology team on this achievement. “Accreditation from professional registration bodies is critical to quality assurance and instils confidence in our programmes by students and employers alike.” He added that there is already a marked increase in applications for the programme since the RIAI’s initial accreditation visit in 2012. “Our first- option applications on the CAO have increased by 46% compared to the same time last year. I have no doubt that accreditation by both RIAI and CIAT (Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists) plays a significant role in this increase.

 

The RIAI will continue to monitor the programme with the next visit scheduled to take place during the 2017 / 2018 academic year.
