Friday, February 1st, 2013: Institute of Technology Carlow hosted a talk with Jerry C. Manock, designer of the case for both the Apple II and the original Apple Macintosh computer. The large lecture theatre at IT Carlow was packed with students from all disciplines, especially those studying Product Design Innovation, Industrial Design Engineering and Computing.

Jerry brought the captivated audience through his ‘Twelve Commandments of Design’ followed by a lively Q & A session which included stories of what it was like to work with the famous Steve Jobs. IT Carlow lecturer Frank Fennelly, who also worked at Apple in California during the development of the Macintosh computer, described the talk as ‘an inspiring hour of insight in to one of the most iconic and successful product designs and indeed, brands of our time’. It was a great experience for students and it was a pleasure to host the event and give Gerry a tour of our electronic engineering facilities, our design studios, and our DesignCORE research and enterprise centre’.
