IT Carlow Library hosts Best Practice seminar

13/11/2018

The Library was delighted to host a seminar “Best practice for communicating library initiatives and  research” on Thursday 8th November and to welcome library staff from across the country including from Dublin Public Libraries, Health Service Executive, University of Limerick, Maynooth University, Athlone Institute of Technology, Dublin Institute of Technology and Dundalk Institute of Technology.  We were particularly pleased to welcome Dr. Philip Cohen who is the current President of the Library Association of Ireland. The seminar focused on how important professional communication is for library staff and looked at different methods that can be used to communicate our work and our research more widely.

Topics covered on the day included how to develop a podcast and the practicalities of interviewing, editing and broadcasting, how to make an award winning poster presentation to showcase at conferences, how to approach and succeed when publishing a journal article and finally how to practically develop a profile on social networking tools. This seminar is one of a series of seminars held by the library as part of their involvement in the Library Staff Learning to Support Learners Learning ( L2L) project. L2L is a two year collaborative project between IT Carlow, DIT and DKIT.  It is being funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (https://www.teachingandlearning.ie/) and looks at the Professional Development Framework for all Staff who Teach in Higher Education through the lens of Library staff. Further information about this project can be found at www.l2l.ie
