Non-EU Applicants must apply for a visa to the Embassy of Ireland or the Consulate in their home country. It is the responsibility of each applicant to organise a study visa prior to arrival in Ireland. Students must meet immigration requirements in order to reside and study in Ireland. Visa applications will only be considered on the presentation of the following material;
- Original academic certificates
- Letter of acceptance by host Institute / College
- Statement of financial support
- Letter of undertaking by the applicant to return to their Country of Origin on completion of studies
- In addition to these documents, the Department of Justice may require the applicant to provide other appropriate information
Immigration Certificate of Registration (GNIB Card)
All non-EU students intending to remain in Ireland for more than 90 days must register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau within 30 days of arriving in Ireland regardless of whether you required a visa to enter Ireland. You will be issued with a Certificate of Registration (more commonly known as a ‘GNIB Card’). You need to follow these steps to register with the GNIB:
- Your passport
- Your SETU Carlow student card (issued at registration)
- Bank statement - Students must demonstrate access to sufficient funds to support themselves during their period of study in Ireland (minimum of €3,000.00 in your account). An acceptable form of evidence of financial support is an original bank statement which shows a student’s name, address and bank balance. Students are required to open a bank account in order to demonstrate their financial status. Letters to open bank accounts can be obtained from the International Office.
