What is this Course about?

The discipline of marketing is going through deep changes because of technology disruption. Organisations are adapting across the marketing lifecycle, in product conception to development; in advertising to selling and aftersales.

This change has borne new roles and areas of expertise collectively known as ‘Digital Marketing’.

The Business with Digital Marketing course was developed to meet employment demand for business graduates with a specialism in this area.

Course Structure

The first two years of this course provide students with a foundation in business, and subjects are common for all students studying our business degree.

In Year 3, along with regular business subjects, you will study digital design and web technologies. You will also undertake work placement in a digital marketing environment.

The design and technology modules in this course will allow you to create a presence on social media and the web that attracts and gives value to users and customers.

Special Features:

  • Students undertake a 12 – 20 week work placement in a digital marketing role in Year 3. This placement gives students valuable experience in best practice approaches and improves their employability.
  • Design subjects are informed by and delivered in partnership with our Visual Communications and Design faculty.
  • Students will produce course work that can be added to a portfolio to showcase technical and design skills.
  • Exit Awards: Higher Certificate in Business (NFQ Level 6) after Year 2.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Graduates can pursue postgraduate studies to masters or doctoral level in business or marketing areas. There are a range of further study options at Institute of Technology Carlow and at other institutions.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

Graduates of this course are suited to all areas of business and management that apply to graduates of our standard business degree.

In addition, graduates with the digital marketing specialism have career opportunities in digital marketing, social media marketing, digital product management, online selling, online customer experience (CX), user experience (UX), digital advertising, search advertising and search engine optimisation.
