Lecturer at the Department of Electronic Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Institute of Technology Carlow.
Research Experience
In 2006, monthly statistics from Expertise Ireland demonstrate that Dr Picovici’s research/academic profile was among the top ten experts from academic institutions in Ireland. Dorel’s research interests are in the area of non-intrusive objective games/speech quality assessment and end-user behaviour modelling. From 2004 to 2007 he was a research officer with the National Communications Network Research Centre (NCNRC) based in University of Limerick. The NCNRC was founded in November 2003 for a duration of 4 years, with seed funding of EUR 5.6M awarded by Science Foundation Ireland. The research work carried with NCNRC consisted in Adapting QoS for VoIP in B3G/4G Wireless Networks using Non-Intrusive evaluation.
Dr. Picovici has two patent applications, authored and co-authored more than 40 book chapters, refereed journals and international conference articles. In 2003 & 2004, he was a jury member during International Annual Students’ Contest “Hard & Soft”, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Suceava, Romania. He is a regular reviewer and member of the Steering Committees for a number of national, European and international conferences, and has acted as a reviewer for a number of journals, books and research funding bodies.
