Presentation of Sports Scholarships at IT Carlow

On Tuesday 15th March, IT Carlow was delighted to present 67 talented students with Sports Scholarships across a range of courses. IT Carlow is committed to the development of sporting excellence and awards the scholarships in order to promote and foster sporting talent in the college. The Sports Scholarships were presented to students in a variety of sports including hurling, camogie,  gaelic football,  soccer, basketball, rugby, swimming, and volleyball. There was practically a sports star from every county including; Meath , Monaghan, Carlow, Kilkenny ,Mayo, Laois, Offaly, Cork, Dublin, Clare, Cork, Kildare, Limerick, Sligo, Tipperary, Donegal and Wexford.

The Sport Scholarship Award Ceremony took place on Tuesday afternoon and attendees included scholarship winners and their guests, sports coaches and team managers, and Heads of School and Department at IT Carlow.  Mr Cormac O’Toole, Secretary/Financial Controller of IT Carlow, opened the ceremony congratulating students on their achievements.  Mr Paddy Browne, Chairman of the Governing Body presented each recipient with their award, congratulated them on their achievements and spoke about the continued development of the Institute.
IT Carlow is extremely proud of its high quality academic reputation that matches its whole hearted commitment to delivering sporting excellence. The Sports Scholarship Programme supports athletes who have the talent and dedication to combine an academic course with excellence in sport. The value of each Sports Scholarship is assessed on an individual basis.
Carmel Lynch, Sports Officer at IT Carlow said, “The Sports Scholarships give the elite sports person the opportunity to compete at the highest level while pursuing a course at the Institute. The scheme is designed to develop individual talent and maintain the Institute’s sporting tradition. We encourage all students to balance their time wisely to ensure that academic or sporting interests are not compromised. We are very proud of the achievements of our sports people at IT Carlow”.
