15/02/2018

IT Carlow Access Programme for Young People in CareAs part of its programme to celebrate Care Day 2018, Institute of Technology Carlow is delighted to announce a new initiative expanding its Carlow Access Programme for young people in care.

The Carlow Access Programme targets those who have the ability to benefit from and succeed in third level education but who, for a variety of reasons, encounter barriers which have impacted on their education. This initiative will offer reduced points’ places and financial scholarships to young people in care and care leavers.

Speaking about the initiative, the Institute’s Vice-President for Academic Affairs, David Denieffe stated,  "Institute of Technology Carlow is proud to launch this initiative to support young people in care and those who have left care, many of whom face significant barriers in accessing third-level education. At Institute of Technology Carlow, we are committed to providing an inclusive and positive environment that values and supports our learners in achieving their highest potential, and this initiative reflects that commitment.”

In order to access the scheme, applicants will normally have been in attendance at school for the duration of their second-level education, or at a recognised Adult Education/QQI-FE Provider in the case of mature applicants.  Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they are highly-motivated and interested in studying at undergraduate level in their chosen area. Leaving Certificate students are required to have the minimum entry requirements for the course they have applied for and FETAC students need a full FETAC award. Mature students, on the other hand, are assessed solely on the basis of their application.

For further information on this scheme, please contact the Access Officer in your school, or Institute of Technology Carlow’s Access Office at 059-9175603. Further information is also available by clicking here »

The closing date for applications is 1st March 2018.
