21/12/2013

INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY CARLOW IS THE SUNDAY TIMES INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY OF THE YEAR  2013 / 2014

Institute of Technology Carlow (IT Carlow) is The Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the year.

The annual University Guide was published in the weekend’s Sunday Times. Alastair McCall, Editor of The Sunday Times Good University Guide, said: "IT Carlow represents all that's good about the buoyant IT sector and made a compelling case to be our IT of the Year. Investments in outstanding facilities such as the new Dargan Centre funded from the institution's own income streams and a mission that puts students and student support at the heart of everything make IT Carlow stand out from the crowd.

"This enterprising institution is already playing a key role in the economy of the Southeast, a position that can only be reinforced as it seeks Technological University status in partnership with Waterford IT. Carlow is an outstanding resource for students and business alike."

Dr. Patricia Mulcahy, President of IT Carlow said “this is a wonderful achievement and I would like to thank the students, graduates, staff and collaborative partners of Institute of Technology Carlow who make it the engaging, innovative and dynamic environment it is. This accolade acknowledges the on-going development of the Institute of Technology Carlow as it continues to meet the needs of a rapidly changing economy and society.  Our most recent developments include the new multi-million Dargan Centre for Research, Development and Innovation; a growing undergraduate and postgraduate programme portfolio for almost 6,000 students; expanding full time and part time study options coupled with the unique IT Carlow student experience”.

Mr. John Moore, Chairman of the Governing Body of Institute of Technology Carlow said ‘ I’m delighted that the Sunday Times Universtiy Guide recognises the culture of  IT Carlow which is the result of outstanding effort of our staff and student body to deliver our mission and vision and live our values on an ongoing basis’.

Speaking about the award and the atmosphere on Campus, Podge Sheehan, President of the IT Carlow Student’s Union commented “It is wonderful to see the Institute awarded on a national level. I have personally witnessed the Institute grow, develop and flourish over the past five years into what it is today and to be recognised for that progress is brilliant. There is an overwhelming sense of pride amongst the college community today who are at the core of IT Carlow. The unique experience and wonderful community atmosphere on the ground at the Institute has been pivotal in its’ success, something we are proud to be part of.”

The Sunday Times University Guide is a comprehensive guide to Higher Education and the award is based on an analysis of all 21 third level universities and institutes in the Republic and across 26 criteria including, grades, retention, research, student services, access for disadvantaged students and contribution to development at local and national levels.
