MICHAEL CONROY - MECAHNICAL ENGINEERING

What I liked about the course
I did a diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Carlow and loved it. The course had a great combination of theory and more importantly hands-on workshop practicals, that was my favourite part. The course covers a broad range of areas and ensures that when you graduate you are ready to start work and actually contribute something useful straight away. I found the lecturers really approachable.

So where am I now?
I'm a Senior Design Engineer with Keenan System in Borris, Co. Carlow. I work with 3d design packages developing mechanical engineering parts and components for our core products which are shipped all over the world. Everyday is different in my line of work and I love that variety. I can be working on service engineering tasks, design, development, troubleshooting and production cotsing. I like the fact that a lot of my work involves interaction with designers, service engineers, manufacturers and our range of international clients, that's what has kept me here for the last 9 years.

What I liked about Carlow!
Carlow was ideal because it was so close to home, believe it or not, something as simple as that really makes a difference especially when it comes to costs and home comforts. The classess were medium sized, none of this impersonal 200/300 lecture theatre stuff. In the classes you really got to know people and makes friends, that helped a lot when it came to group work and studying. The social life was great!
