Welcome to IT Carlow.

This is an exciting time to be part of the Institute of Technology Carlow (IT Carlow).  We are in a time of enormous growth that has seen a new Student Services Centre, the development of a new Research and Development Centre and many more plans that will start to come to fruition over the coming months and years.

These plans extend to the establishment of a multi-campus Technological University of the South East incorporating the Institutes of Technology in the South East Region.  It is anticipated that such a development will ensure that current and future generations of students, in Carlow and other counties in the South East, will be able to fulfil their Higher Education aspirations within their region in a new type of University focused on the flexibility and employability of graduates both nationally and internationally.

IT Carlow has been a principal Higher Education provider for over 40 years and has been at the forefront of the development of new and exciting courses not just for our region but for all of Ireland and internationally.  We welcome students from approximately 20 European countries each year, as well as learners from Asia, the US and the Middle East.

We offer you the opportunity to build your qualifications over time, from Higher Certificate through to Degree, Masters and Doctorate, with as much built-in flexibility as possible.  Our Lifelong Learning Centre provides a wide range of major, minor and special purpose awards to cater for the needs of our substantial part-time student body.

Our focus is on our students.  We think it is crucially important that we provide not only a challenging, hands-on approach to academic achievement, but that we also provide an environment in which our students can thrive and which provides all the support and professional assistance we can give.  Access to teaching staff is unparalleled as you get the experience and knowledge you require.

We keep our courses relevant to the real opportunities in the commercial marketplace.  We work very closely with industry to maintain this relevance and most of our courses come with practical work experience so that you have a headstart whenever you decide to move on.

The facilities at IT Carlow include a technologically advanced Learning Resource Centre with over 1,200 learner stations, purpose-built laboratories and workshops, as well as state-of-the-art radio and TV studios to carry through our ethos of a hands-on learning environment.   Our new purpose-built Student Services Centre is a one-stop-shop for a wide range of student services that includes accommodation advice, careers service, a tutor system, sports activities and over 60 clubs and societies.  Our Student Union is very active and provides lots of social activities throughout the academic year.

Our graduates often tell us how much they enjoyed their time here.  We like to think that’s because we offer more than an excellent academic experience.   IT Carlow will give you the internationally-recognised qualification you need to build a successful career.  But it will also give you the environment and opportunity to form friendships to support you both here and throughout your life.
