JESSICA O'HARA - ENGINEERING

I first started off by doing the Diploma in Civil Engineering at IT Carlow and I found it really interesting. The college has good links with other universities throughout Ireland and the rest of the EU and because of this I had the ability to progress onto DIT and then Trinity where I specialised in a Degree in Structural Engineering and a postgraduate Diploma in Project Management.

What I liked about the course
The fact that the Institute had links with courses in lots of other universities meant that I could get a solid qualification locally and then specialise (if I needed to) elsewhere. The course was really interesting and offered the opportunity to specialise in a number of fields, which could lead to a wide variety of careers.

So where am I now?
I am presently working as an Estates Manager. I play a strategic role in the planning, development, use and maintenance of the property’s physical facilities. I also play a significant role in the formulation, implementation and management of the Campus Development Plan. As Head of Department, I am responsible for the functions of cleaning, caretaking, security, ground maintenance, reception, and good deliveries. It is an extremely interesting and varied position.
