Counselling

There are elements of Institute life that can prove difficult for some; trying to make new friends, being away from home (perhaps for the first time), not sure how to study effectively, financial worries, isolation or shyness. The Institute's Counselling Service exists to help students who are experiencing these and other difficulties.

Most students avail of the service because they know it is time to sort out a difficulty. Others because they have been recommended by a friend, a Class Tutor, the Health Centre or the Students Union.

The Institute has a specialist Counselling Service which is available to all students free of charge. The service provides a safe place where students can come and explore, in a relaxed and private atmosphere, any personal or academic concerns that may be troubling them. The counsellor-student relationship is built on trust, empathy, confidentiality and the absence of judgemental attitutes.

Students can self-refer by either contacting the student counsellor Renagh Linnane or approaching Student Services.
