Learning Resource Centre
Overall, the Learning Resource Centre provides 1,200 student spaces and houses the Institute's library, computing and information technology facilities, TV & Radio studios and multi-media laboratories. Modern internet communications means that there is no disadvantage to studying outside the major cities, but instead carries obvious advantages of lower accommodation costs, shorter travel times and negligible incidences of traffic congestion, pollution and crime.The development also incorporates a Catering Services Building, with restaurants on two floors and seating for up to 800 people.
The newest phase in the Institute's development has seen the development of the following:
New Student Services Building
A new 3000 sq. metre Student Services Building was completed in October 2011, which further enhances students' experience and wellbeing while studying at IT Carlow. This facility includes a 600m Sports Hall & Changing Facilities; Steam Room & Sauna; Gyms; Medical Centre; Health Centre; High Performance Gym; Meditation Room; Fitness Suite; Access Service; Careers Service; Counselling Service and also houses the Students Union.
Sports Stand & External Dressing Rooms
IT Carlow has one of the most developed sports and society programmes in Irish third level with more than 60 clubs and societies and even has degree based sports programmes in Rugby, GAA and Soccer, as well as a new BA (Hons) Degree in Sports Management and Coaching. A new 600 seater sports stand facility has been constructed and includes dressing rooms, referees room, treatment room and public toilet facilities. This development includes additional parking facilities on site.
Engineering Technology Building
Phase 2 of the Engineering Technology Building has been completed. The extension consists of a two storey building which further enhances laboratories and work-shop facilities for engineering students.
Land for development
IT Carlow has purchased 40 acres of land on a site close to the main campus in Carlow. Initial development plans are now under discussion.
