Collections

Audio-Visual Material

All non-print material is shelved in the audio-visual stack #22 on the first floor.

Current Journals: online and print

The library subscribes to a large range of journals, both in print and electronic format. These journals cover all subject areas taught in the Institute.

Exam Papers

The Library holds print copies of exam papers for most courses for the last three years. Exam papers can only be used in the library.

Print Collections

The General Lending Collection consists of books which may be borrowed for up to one week at a time. The Short Loan Collection consists of books which are in constant demand and the loan period is therefore restricted to one week only. Books in both collections are arranged in Dewey Decimal Classification System order.

Reference Collection

The Reference Collection, located on the first floor, consists of books, reports, government publications, which may be only used in the library. The reference collection for Law is located on the ground floor.

Special Collections

The Geoffrey Hand collection was donated to the library in 2012 and consists mainly of law materials but also included are items on ecclesiastical history, politics and Irish and British history. The collection comprises different types of materials including antiquarian books, offprints and personal papers. Professor Hand’s personal papers cover a range of topics including human rights, constitutional law, comparative constitutions and the European Union. This collection is located on the Ground Floor of the Carlow Campus Library.

Online Resources

The library subscribes to a collection of databases which cover a large range of subjects. Contents may include journal and newspaper articles, books, reports and conference proceedings. The majority of these databases are available both on-campus and off-campus. Most databases can also be searched via the Search and Find: Online resources service interface on the library catalogue home page. A List of all databases can be viewed here. Most databases and material accessible via Search and Find can be accessed on- and off-campus: for off-campus access users will be required to login with their SETU network username and password.

Teaching and Learning Collection

The collection of material related to teaching and learning is held on the first floor.

Theses

A collection of undergraduate and postgraduate theses is also available. Theses can only be used in the library.
