IT Carlow Library

Library Membership

Library membership is automatic to all registered students of IT Carlow. Other types of membership are also available to interested members of the public.

External Borrower

Membership as an External Borrower provides access to the library’s borrowing facilities. This enables an individual to borrow up to two items from the General Lending Collection at any one time. The period of loan is one week and overdue items are subject to fines as displayed on notices in the library. Most borrowable resources are stored on open shelves and are readily available.
An External Borrower can use the internet to request books which are currently on loan to another user.
An External Borrower can use the internet to extend the loan period of items which are currently on loan on their account (subject to certain restrictions)
As the primary purpose of the library is to serve the needs of IT Carlow staff and students, the interests of External Readers should not conflict with the needs of our staff or students. Please note that, as a result, access is at the discretion of the Librarian and may be limited to evening or Saturday hours only.

Please note that an External Borrower does not have borrowing rights to material from the Short Loan Collection, the Reference Collection or the Journals Collection. An External Borrower does not have access to inter-library loan facilities or to computing facilities. (except for the Online Public Access Catalogue – OPAC)
External Borrower Membership is offered at a cost of €50 per annum.
