E.U. Programmes

The Institute of Technology Carlow is the beneficiary of a number of EU funded projects under the INTERREG IIIA programme, which is designed to encourage partnerships across borders and in so doing to stimulate regional development. The Programme is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

WINNOVATE (January 2004 – January 2005)
The Institute of Technology Carlow has received funding from the INTERREG IIIA programme to support Product Development in South East Ireland. WINNOVATE is a joint project between The Institute of Technology Carlow and The National Centre for Product Design and Development Research (PDR), Wales.

The aims of the project are to:
• Create innovation and market diversification through Product Development among manufacturing SMEs.
• Raise the awareness of Product Development opportunities among manufacturing SMEs.
• Identify and facilitate opportunities for collaboration across the Irish Sea addressing common Product Development and market diversification issues

INTERSEED (June 2004 – June 2007)
The Institute of Technology Carlow has also received funding from the INTERREG IIIA programme to support the promotion of science and technology in South East Ireland. Inter-SEED is a joint project between The Institute of Technology Carlow and The Darwin Centre for Biology and Medicine, Wales.

The aims of the project are to:
• Plant the seed of excitement and curiosity in science and technology that will lead to a greater awakening in the minds of individuals, communities, enterprise sectors, entrepreneurs and SME’s in both communities.
• Establish a cross-border training network
• Establish a culture of cross border research.
